Background
Throughout the 7 years when Kwong Wun was suffering from leukaemia, his parents gave him their whole-hearted support in his fight against the lethal cancer. Sadly, medication did not have its desired effect and Kwong Wun gradually failed to respond to treatment. In the winter of their despair, Mr and Mrs Pau could only make the most of the last months they had with Kwong Wun in improving his quality of life. After the bereavement, Mr and Mrs Pau believed that their experience of going through and coping with the trauma could be used to help other families beset with similar difficulties. This led to the formation of the Foundation in 1998 as a non-profit-making charitable organization. In 2005 the Foundation also became a full member of the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organization (ICCCPO). Currently, the board members overseeing the operation of the Foundation comprise, apart from Mr and Mrs Pau as the founder board members, a pediatrician as well as people with commercial and legal background.
Mission
● Encourage children suffering from leukaemia and other cancers and their parents to adopt a positive outlook in their fight against the disease.
● Assist cancer children who have recovered to re-enter society and gainful employment.
Service Goals
Mutual Support Network
● Organise activities and communication channels for cancer children and their parents to foster sharing of experience, mutual support and encouragement.
Development Services
● Provide training opportunities to cancer children who have recovered to increase their skill to overcome difficulties in social life and the workplace.
● Organise training in volunteer service for volunteers including cancer children parents to assist service recipients to better look after themselves.
